Terry's Testimony
When I was 10 years old, the church my parents and I went to did not say anything about being saved or knowing for sure of going to heaven. Later I found out that they believed that a person was saved by their baby baptism (a false gospel). My misconception, however, was that a person was saved by following the Ten Commandments.
One day I tried do that (follow the Ten Commandments) but within a few minutes I failed. In fact I tried to do that for several days, and I failed miserably. Without knowing it at the time, I proved Romans 3. The Law was there to demonstrate that we were sinners in need of a savior and that it could not save us. Here were these Ten Laws hanging over my head with my conscience screaming: "Terry, you are condemned!" I started to hate God.
One day, about two years later, I "accidentally" turned a TV program on and heard a man say: "What must you do to be saved?" And I said to myself: "Oh, it's by obeying the Ten Commandments"... and quickly turned to another station. I eventually turned the channel back to him and heard him say: "It's not by the Ten Commandments that one is saved." Now I was curious... and so I started to listen.
First, he said what did NOT save you... "the Golden Rule, the Ten Commandments, and baptism. All of these are good, but none of them can save you and get you into Heaven."
The he explained that the Bible taught that you can know for sure of being saved, and how one could receive eternal life. He said that all of us were sinners, that Christ died on the cross for all men and all sin, and also that Christ rose from the dead (proving He was God and could save us), and that you need to believe on Him and receive Christ Jesus as Savior and Lord.
That night I prayed that speaker on the TV to receive Christ as my Savior and Lord, calling on Jesus to save me.
It changed the entire direction of my life. When my parent's came home, I told them that we need to start going to church again. Two weeks later I started reading my Bible. But the biggest change was that I had peace with God; knowing of a friendship with Him that will one day end up in Heaven with Him.
You too can have this peace with God.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:
The old has gone, the new is here!"
The old has gone, the new is here!"
